Back Home in Beaumont

Lynda Neuman on May 2, 2017

The numbers tell the story of our whirlwind trip to the North. During 40 days we slept in 23 beds! We spoke in 4 Sunday Church services, besides 4 other church prayer meetings, updating them on our ministries and encouraging prayer and financial participation. We met with 12 financially supporting units (individuals or couples) besides 7 prayer supporting units. Lynda spoke to 2 Women's Missionary Fellowships and Jerry presented our MMM ministry at a 3 day Men's Weekend Retreat. In Los Gatos, California we participated in the California Association of Regular Baptist Churches annual meetings, meeting with numerous missionaries, pastors and lay leaders over the 3 days. Discussing missionary strategy with fellow missionaries on 4 different occasions was a highlight also. Everywhere we went we were well received and cared for. Thank you to all you who received us in one way or another. We praise the Lord for the way He helped His people to minister to us in such loving ways.

The weather and the scenery along the way were great. Three wild turkeys stood by the road next to the lower Trinity River. Mounts Shasta and Lassen, in Northern California, were with their fullest snow pack in years. When we passed over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 it was snowing just enough to make it fun to get out and throw a snowball or make a small snowman. We took a short detour and a half -hour walk through the "Bavarian Village" of Leavenworth, WA. We traced the mighty Columbia River from Wenatchee to the Tri-Cities and down to Biggs Junction in the Gorge. Driving through Eastern Oregon we had the most beautiful clear skies that allowed us to see about a dozen snow-capped mountains in Washington and Oregon. Leaving Eastern Oregon (19 F), we passed by a frozen lake with ducks flying across it: spectacular! We walked on the Santa Cruz boardwalk until closing hours and it started to rain. Jerry played Frisbee Golf in the Redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains on a crisp, but dry, morning. Such are some of the privileges of being a missionary from the beautiful West Coast. You can see a photo journal of this trip in the album Trip North 2017  www.neuman.abwe.org/albums/12166. You have three choices of viewing: 1)The slideshow will show just pictures 2) In the open album you will see pictures with basic titles 3) Click on each picture to see the narrative.

As we went along the way, we shared 3 principal prayer requests, for which we trust you will also join in prayer.     1) For Richard and Charity Jertberg, missionary partners of MMM in Madagascar, as she faced therapy to erradicate cancer after delivering her 5th child. On our last leg of the trip, we stopped by the side of the road to weep and pray as we heard that the Lord chose to take Charity home.  Please continue to pray for Richard as he cares for the children, ages 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 months, and seeks what the Lord has for them in the future. Nate, their 6 year old, accepted the Lord this week! Their American colleagues, who came back to encourage them, have now returned to continue the church planting ministry that our MMM missionary Danielli Costa will participate in.

2) For our MMM missionaries in East Timor, Ronaldo and Thalita.  We shared especially about the health issues of their two boys Zadoque, with his debilitating allergies, and Steven with the signs of possible autism. Praise God with us that March passed with no major health issues. Praise the Lord and keep on praying. Together with our other missionaries in East Timor, they launched the Logos School project with the hopes of receiving 20 adult students to study English and Portuguese. The Lord provided free advertisement on a television station and they ended up with 40 students before having to close the enrollment!

3) For the funds for Jerry to travel to Japan on behalf of MMM. Two individuals have contributed gifts totaling $500. We are estimating a cost of $2,000.

At the moment in which we are sending this letter out, the Directing President of Maranatha Multicultural Ministries, Pr. Jenuan Lira, is in Mozambique along with the Regional Director of Brazil for ABWE, Cal Clark, as they survey this, another former Portuguese colony nation, in need of the gospel and established local churches. We are also asking that the doors open for them to visit nearby Madagascar where our MMM missionary Danielli Costa is learning the Malagasy language, anticipating her ministry there. Please pray that they will be able to make the right contacts and see how we can challenge Brazilians to hear the call for missionary ministries in these two countries.

We are praising the Lord as we see His provision for our support needs. During this trip several individual supporters indicated that they would be doubling their monthly or quarterly support. One of our supporting churches showed us that they had recently increased their financial support of our ministries. Another family who has prayed and housed us numerous times has decided to support our ministries financially. Still another church gave a sizeable gift that will cover the $1,200 debt left in our support account at the end of March. After a detailed evaluation of our support needs we have concluded that we are lacking $980 per month. Please continue to pray for this need and consider how the Lord might use you to help us as we extend your ministry
