Lynda Neuman on September 6, 2020

Praying for your Missionaries August 2020 Ephesians 6.18 enjoins believers to be "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. . ." and for your missionaries! But, you may ask, how do I know what to pray for?? Here's a link to a great list of 20 ways to pray for missionaries. https://lifeloveandjesus.com/20-ways-pray-missionaries/ You can read the list at this link or click on another link to download a free printable of this list and several other lists of how to pray for various...

On the way to Normal

Lynda Neuman on September 6, 2020

ON THE ROAD TO NORMAL We are grateful for your co-operation in prayer for us through these highly unusual last months! God has answered your prayers on many fronts. Our city continues the downward path in coronavirus infections. In fact, our Health Minister said in an article today that we are probably very close to herd immunity. However, our governor has tightened the mask regulations requiring anyone outside their home to wear one - even in one's own vehicle - or face a possible ticket. Our church is finally back to normal after moving through all four phases of reopening....

Quarantine Reverberations

Lynda Neuman on April 27, 2020

We trust this finds you "casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you." (1Pet.5:7) and resting in God's loving care despite all that swirls around us in the world today. Plagues, conflicts, economic instability, political unrest, yet we have the certainty that "Our God is in the heavens and He does what He pleases" (Ps.115:3), with and through the world's kingdoms in order to accomplish His eternal purposes for "The heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord." What great peace this gives to us His children! Our hearts are filled with gratitude for...

Making Adjustments April 2020

Lynda Neuman on April 2, 2020

Making Adjustments                         April 2, 2020 Adjustments are usually a challenge.  We have been doing things one way for a long time, or been expecting something to happen, looking forward with great anticipation to an event -- but then things change --- and we need to adjust.  Adjust the way we do a task, or even how we live, adjust our expectations, come to terms with our disappointment that what we were so happily anticipating is not going to happen. These type of adjustments are all too real in our...

Trusting in God's Good Hand

Lynda Neuman on March 26, 2020

March 13, 2020          TRUSTING IN GOD’S GOOD HAND In the midst of all the news about the corona virus, I ran across the words to the new Easter hymn by Keith and Kristen Getty. They moved my soul in worship to our Great God so I share with you the first two verses.   Christ Our Hope In Life And Death    by Keith & Kristyn Getty  What is our hope in life and death?   Christ alone. Christ alone What is our only confidence?   That our souls to him belong. Who holds our days within his...

March 5, 2020           March Blessings We are grateful for your continued interest in our ministry and your prayers for us! We hope you will rejoice with us in the varied ways we have seen the Lord's rich blessing in our lives and ministries these days. You will find pictures here that illustrate these blessings. TEACHING AND LEARNING My Hebrew classes have taken off and the Lord has given me a special group to teach. There are 18 students, several of them are in full-time ministry already, several others are training for missionary service, one of these a medical doctor....

Arrived!

Jerry Neuman on March 26, 2020

February 10,2020    ARRIVED!! A big thanks to all who prayed for us as we returned to Brazil. We arrived in Fortaleza as scheduled. Due to a cold and much turbulence over the Carribean, Lynda was not doing well when we arrived and had to be taken by wheelchair from the airplane to our car on the curb.  This was, in reality, a blessing in disguise as the customs officials took pity on her (and us) and hardly looked at our 9+ suitcases! Lynda recuperated enough through the next 24 hours that we were able to fly as planned to Rio...

Joyful Singing

Jerry Neuman on March 26, 2020

January 27, 2020        "For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.  How great are your works, O Lord!" Ps. 92:4-5a The Scripture reading of Psalm 92 this morning in the church we attended, Placerita Bible Church in Newhall, was so very fitting as a final close to our time in the US.  Please read the entire Psalm and exalt the Lord with us! This 6-month furlough has been unique: no home-base, meetings in churches almost every week, lots of wonderful fellowship with friends and...

Blessings Upon Blessings

Jerry Neuman on December 28, 2019

This furlough has been amazing in so many ways. We certainly have been blessed by the Lord through so many people, many of them are you, the recipients of our monthly missives.  Thank you so much for praying with us and blessing us in so many ways. Since our last prayer letter, we went over "east of the mountains" to the Tri-cities, Washington, area where we met with folks from several different churches leading up to all-day services at First Baptist Church of Pasco. The next day we were off to Stayton, Oregon for a debriefing meeting with Missionary Care...

Overwhelmed By Blessings

Jerry Neuman on December 28, 2019

As we came to the US on this furlough, my (Lynda) heart was a bit unsettled, even though I was looking forward to our time in the US. This time was to be different than any other in our 35 years of going back and forth – we had no base from which to travel. We had a lot of friends we would stay with, but there were a lot of open spaces in our itinerary where we had NO idea where we would stay. And the deep desire of my heart was to be able to spend significant time...

Running Around for the Lord

Jerry Neuman on November 15, 2019

Running around the beautiful northwest  Since our last update we have experienced the blessings of the Lord running around the Northwest.  We made one long trip from Everson, Wa through Grand Forks, BC, Canada down into Washington visiting friends in Summit Valley, Chewelah, Spokane Valley, Eltopia, and Richland, and in Hermiston, OR. Our destination was Nampa, ID to visit Kirk & Juanita McKeeth and their ministry, Iglésia El Tesoro. After a great time of fellowship we headed back through Richland and finally to Fox Island, WA. We are very grateful for the generosity of Graham & Sharon Marshall of the...

Fall Meanderings

Lynda Neuman on November 6, 2019

October 2, 2019 ENCOURAGING NEWS!  Praise the Lord with us! We have seen various increases to the monthly pledges that form our support base since arriving in the US mid-July. Having re-evaluated this week, we have determined the need to update several categories: rent, ministry and medical expenses.  With these adjustments, we lack $475 in monthly commitments for ABWE to grant us clearance to return to Brazil. Our request for clearance (with pledges for full support) needs to be submitted by the end of November to clear us for returning to Brazil the end of January.  Please pray with us...

Sept. 9, 2019 We are so grateful for your prayers as we travel to report to our churches. God has given safety, great meetings with our churches, encouraging fellowship all along the way. Despite many different beds, we are sleeping relatively well and getting exercise in frequently if not every day. Lynda is struggling some with keeping her blood pressure down, prayers appreciated. Since our last letter, we have reported to Bethany Baptist in Martinez, Berean Fellowship in Hemet, and First Baptist of Weaverville. Over Labor Day weekend we spent time with Jerry's family and our son, Nathan, in Lakehead,...

My laptop and passport were found by Alaska Air and shipped back to me! 2. Our son bought me a new phone.  You can reach me at 661-855-0232. 3. God's Blessings Amid Challenges

Lynda Neuman on November 6, 2019

July 30,2019 THE BLESSINGS Our trip went well and our time at the ABWE conference (7/15-18) focused on the hope we have in Jesus Christ and provided great fellowship which encouraged and uplifted us. We learned much at the ABWE Security Training. It was a joy to see our friends in the DC area.  We were greatly blessed worshipping at Capitol Hill Baptist Church (7/21) and visiting the Museum of the Bible. Our time with supporters in Yorktown was relaxing and encouraging. Visiting the Revolutionary War Museum with them, enlightening.  Early Thursday morning (7/25) we flew out to LAX.  We've...

THE END RESULT - COMING TO THE USA Thank you for your partnering with us in prayer concerning Jerry’s health.  God has answered those prayers in surprising ways we’d like to share with you! Truly, “The heart of man plans his way, BUT THE LORD ESTABLISHES HIS STEPS!!” Prov. 16.9 ESV 1. I know that computers can break down anywhere in the world and at any time, but it still is disheartening when it happens to you and delays once again the game plan. They were able to do the first part of this heart exam, with nuclear materials, while I was laying down, relaxing. Then off to lunch and back to have an access port installed in my arm. Then, after all the patients had theirs installed, the attendants come and tell us that the computer for the machine is not working!!  They had to remove the access ports and send...

Adjusting Sails to the Wind - June 12, 2019

Jerry Neuman on June 26, 2019

Well, you can keep praying. The doctors are asking for yet another exam that will measure the flow within the arteries and the heart. Also it will see if there is any damage to the heart because of restricted flow. (At least that is the way I understand it.) We think they are hoping there is not enough restriction to warrant a surgical procedure now. They still hold out hope that we will leave on our trip, a week or so later. So we have cancelled our AirB&B for the first week in S. Cal. and wondering what else will...

Christmas Greetings

Lynda Neuman on December 24, 2018

We want to take this opportunity to wish all of our prayer and financial supporters a Merry Christmas. The life that Jesus came to live was to be an example for us to live. He is the brightness/radiance of the Glory of God (Heb. 1.3). The Holy Spirit is transforming us into the image of this Glorious One (Rom. 8:29). Praise the Lord He came in obedience to the Father. All this and much more began to take shape when the Angel Gabriel brought the message to a young, devout lady. We celebrate His birth. We celebrate His life! To follow...

Urgent Prayers for Safety

Lynda Neuman on August 28, 2018

PRAYER FOR SAFETY NEEDED:  Our city and state have become increasingly more dangerous, due to drugs, gangs, and now organized criminal groups. Fortaleza is classified as one of the most dangerous cities in Brazil. We live in an older middle to upper class neighborhood across the street from a major mall and between the governor's palace and one of the cities regional offices. Yet our neighborhood has become a target for assault and robbery. Last Saturday we went to comfort and pray with one of our members who was assaulted as he arrived at home, just after his wife had...

I felt privileged to be invited and paid the cost in time as well as finances. It was also a bit rough on my body, especially considering the long trips there and back as well as the busyness of the week. But, all considered, it was well worth everything. First, Monday night and Tuesday morning just ABWE missionary educators gathered. What a pleasure it was to see and work with colleagues from around the world! One colleague was my Bible...

Update: Trucker's Strike

Lynda Neuman on May 31, 2018

We do appreciate your prayers for the difficult situation that Brazil is going through-- both economically and politically. What started eleven days ago as a protest against high taxation has now turned political - because the real reason behind the exorbitant taxes on the Brazilian people is corruption in high places and absurd salaries and benefits for government leaders.  Primary results from the strike for truckers is a decrease in diesel fuel prices. There is a huge difference between Brazil and other developing countries – she has almost no railroad system, so everything goes by truck! Because of this many...

If all the members of the family do their part, then the family and the church will be strong. We have to work side by side. That should help you read our monthly updates with more ease. 2. Those of you...

We don´t always succeed though; sometimes they have to experience life to learn.  It comes a little harder when we, the older, experienced ones, have to admit we are still learning from the hard knocks of life.Take choosing a car, for example.  We bought our current one almost 4 years ago, using what funds we received from our former car and adding some funds received from offerings on a short furlough.  Our choice was...

The LORD ListensOne of the biggest incentives to our prayer life can be the answer to prayer.  If we really, truly believe the Lord listens and answers our prayers we are encouraged to pray more.  Your getting involved in prayer for missionaries and their prayer requests can become one of the greatest boosts to your prayer life.So let me ask the question: Did you pray for the request we sent out the other day?  Did you believe the Lord listened to your prayer?  Were you expecting an answer soon?He did answer our prayers and here is the reward for your...

Prayer for the Nascimentos

Jerry Neuman on December 28, 2011

Urgent Prayer Request  We have just heard from our Maranatha missionaries in Guyana, John Nascimento and Fabiana.  For weeks they have been expecting a response from government officials about their decision to grant visas for them.  Today, Monday, the 19th, they received a call to come and talk with them tomorrow, at 10am.  Typically, this is the way the immigration department uses to inform people that the request was denied and informing them of how long they will have to leave the country.  We've seen it before in several cases of missionaries working in that country.  We are reporting to the...

East is East and West is West

Jerry Neuman on December 28, 2011

Rudyard Kipling began his famous poem with the words,   Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,   Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;   But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,   When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!  Sometimes it is hard for me to live on the east coast of Brazil, having been raised on the West Coast of the US: the ocean is just on the wrong side of things!  Culturally though,...

Filling the Gap

Jerry Neuman on December 28, 2011

This year John Piper's Desiring God Ministries launched Holy Ambition: To Preach Where Christ Has Not Been Named.  Bob Walsh, the Director of International Outreach, wrote in the preface "In the last century the demographic center of global Christianity has shifted south in a big way. Huge numbers of people are being added to the church daily in Africa, Asia, and South America.[i] But the supply of biblically trained shepherds to lead these churches is in no way keeping pace."We are trying to fill that gap training Christian leaders to be biblically equipped for the task.     Last Saturday night we saw the fruit of our labors...

Full Steam Ahead . . . well maybe

Jerry Neuman on November 22, 2011

Imagine with me a steam locomotive heading down the tracks.  The passenger train is full of people going to the many towns up ahead, which also have people waiting to board this train.  All of a sudden you, the coal tender, realize that you have no more coal!  You've got enough to get to the next town or so, but sooner or later, and probably sooner than you want to, you're going to come to a rolling stop!   We are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating which ministries offered to us are most important and which are suited to our gifts, abilities...

Weaving Two Life Stories

Jerry Neuman on November 15, 2011

Several years ago Diana was my student in Christian Ethics class.  The essence is of this class is that we are to do all for the glory of the Lord.  Diana was also a pre-med student who applied herself and a sweet girl.  Having since specialized in pain control and anesthesia, she is now waiting for a position at the cancer hospital (public care) here in Fortaleza.  She and her family are good friends at the church we attend.Pastor Nilson is probably about 45 years old, having served well here as a pastor, spent about 10 years as a missionary...

Everything for Life and Godliness

Lynda Neuman on October 9, 2011

Report on the Biblical Counseling CourseThe apostle Peter began his second letter with the affirmation that through our knowledge of God in His Word, we have been given all that we need to live in a way that pleases God. (the Scriptures are completely sufficient to live a godly lifestyle.)  Holding on with all we have to that truth, we have facilitated the Biblical Counseling Seminars at the Maranatha Seminary (SIBIMA) twice last year and then last month again.  First it was 30 students.  Then it was 120 taking part in two modules.  Then we projected 200 in three modules this time! ...

Trips -- Near and Far

Jerry Neuman on August 20, 2011

It isn’t nice when your only car is in the shop for a week.  It would be easy to get out bent of shape at the problems we are having with our trips around town on the buses, but our trips don’t compare with the ones our pastor is making these days.  Friday morning we sent off, once again, Pastor Jenuan Lira, president of the Maranatha Multi-cultural Ministries mission.  He returned at mid-night last Sunday from a week in the Cape Verde Islands and now, four days later, he is on his way to East Timor. Fortaleza City BusLast Thursday’s experience...

Pedal 40 - Creative Missions Giving

Lynda Neuman on August 16, 2011

R$80,000.00 (=$53,333.00)  -- that's the missions giving goal for 2011 at Igreja Bíblica Batista Planalto (IBBP) where we attend.  How did we arrive at that amount??  By adding up all our commitments to missionaries: monthly support commitments plus benefits such as 13th salary that are expected here.  Last year the goal was R$40,000.  This year we added 2 new missionary families -- João Sousa, MMM missionary to Guyana and Vasily, a  Russian missionary pastor in Turkmenistan who cares for several congregations all at once.   So our goal was doubled!  Somewhat daunting, you say??  Discouraging, when half-way through the year we only had about 1/3 of our full...

Post Semester Reflections

Jerry and Lynda Neuman on August 8, 2011

POST SEMESTER REFLECTIONS REFLECTIONS OF A ROOKIE   by Lynda Teaching the Ladies' Christian Worker class this last semester was my first experience on my own at the seminary level, so I went into it with a bit of trepidation.  My perspective being somewhat different from what was passed down from previous teachers, I decided to come up with my own material, making it a greater challenge yet. God graciously gave me a small group with which to work, all very desirous of serving God and reflecting His character in the way they live their daily lives. Each lady has a...

God's Blessings on Family

Lynda Neuman on July 9, 2011

FAMILY CONCERNS  One of the biggest challenges of serving the Lord in distant places, is the distance this oftens puts between us and our loved ones. When we moved to Brazil in 1984, we recognized that distance would limit our opportunities to be with our respective families and many friends scattered up and down the West Coast and across the US. As our family grew, this distance began to separate us from our children and their families as well, some in the US, some in other parts of Brazil.  The times when we are all able to be together become fewer with greater times between, yet we cherish...

Spring 2011

Lynda Neuman on May 24, 2011

The first months of this year have been some of the busiest we’ve had in our missionary service.  The last week of January was the Christ on Campus week.  This was the second time that SIBIMA has had this week of spiritual preparation of university students for the battles they face on secular university campuses.  Jerry presented four hours on Spirituality to the 15 students.Classes at SIBIMA began in February.  Jerry is teaching Introduction to Missiology, Analysis of I Corinthians, Eschatology and Christology.  Lynda is teaching the Women’s Workers course.  Preparation for this has been a challenge since she has...

Recapping 2010

Lynda Neuman on February 17, 2011

Furlough Ministry in the US From April 15th to August 13th we returned to the US to fulfill our responsibility of reporting to all our churches every five years.  In three months time, we reported to 14 financial/prayer supporting churches and 2 churches who pray for us, besides meetings with pastors of several other supporting churches and making friends with some new pastors as well.  Many miles were safely traveled in a comfortable, economical car loaned to us by friends.  God provided our $700 support need enabling us to return to Brazil on time. A monthly internet/cell phone...

The Way God Answered Your Prayers

Jerry Neuman on December 21, 2010

Dear Prayer Team, We want to thank you so much for your prayers for us in November and December. Your participation in this way was important to us. Read on to experience the blessings of answered prayer as you read the following report. Missions Trip to Interior It hardly seems like a month since we went on the missions trip to Crateus.  We did some car maintenance just before leaving that surely helped us have good trips there and back.  Also, the preparation by the leaders helped the group when adjustments had to be made.  Our plans to use...
